American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ED Holds/Tele position requiring strong cardiac telemetry skills and the ability to interpret rhythm strips.
Responsibilities- Work in an acute care setting on the ED Holds/Telemetry unit
- Patient population includes ED holds awaiting inpatient beds, primarily medical-surgical and telemetry patients
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4
- 12-hour night shifts with self-scheduling, subject to change as needed
- Four weekend shifts required per four-week schedule
- Must work at least two of the four major holidays during the assignment
- Float to med/surg, tele, overflow units, and other emergency departments as needed
- No on-call or standby requirements
- Unit uses Cerner EMR and requires experience
- No vents used on this unit; care focuses on cardiac drips and telemetry monitoring
- Monitor techs are not present; RNs must read and interpret rhythm strips
- Primary duties include caring for ED hold patients, focusing on cardiac telemetry and medication titration
- May assist with ED patient tasks such as obtaining vitals, IV starts, and medication administration, but will not serve as primary RN for ED patients
- Two shifts of orientation provided for med/surg/tele at the primary campus
- Team includes ED charge nurse and ED PCTs for support
- Scrub color is navy
- First time travelers are welcome to apply; previous travel experience is not required
- Must provide two references: one supervisor from the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the last three years
- Active AZ or compact RN license required at the time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of recent telemetry nursing experience within the last 6 months
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (AHA or APEX) certifications required
- Must have a strong background in cardiac telemetry including titrating cardiac drips such as Cardizem, Heparin, and Amiodarone
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam (RELIAS) within 48 hours of offer, with a maximum of 2 attempts
- Mandatory pass/fail SIM lab on day one of orientation
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips without monitor tech support
- Drivers license required for consideration
- Candidates must not have been employed by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility in the past year
