🏥 Emergency Department RN – 12H Evenings (1 PM - 1 AM)

Location: St. Joseph’s Main, Westgate, Litchfield Park, Glendale – Arizona
Trauma Level: I
Contract Weeks: 13 (91 days)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week

Shift & Schedule

  • Shift: 1:00 PM – 1:00 AM (12H Evenings)
  • Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks (unit discretion)
  • Holiday Requirement: Work 2 of 4 major holidays
  • Onboarding/Orientation:
    • 2–3 floor shifts orientation
    • Day 1 Exam (Pass/Fail) — must pass to continue
    • SIMs Lab (pass/fail)
      • Foley insertion
      • Central line dressing change (except ED: does port-a-cath instead)
      • Sterile technique is critical

🧪 Exam & SIMs Lab Details

  • Day 1 Written Exam: Pass/fail (study guide provided)
  • SIMs Lab: Skills check
    • Breaking sterile field = termination
  • Areas Tested:
    • Foley catheter insertion
    • Central line dressing changes (or port-a-cath)
    • Lifts, restraints, wound care (educational)

🏥 Unit/Facility Info

  • Unit Type: ED / Trauma (no traveler coverage in trauma bays)
  • Bed Count:
    • Acute: 36 beds
    • Subacute: 54 beds
    • Trauma Bays: 6 (travelers do not cover these)
  • Average Volume: ~250–300 patients/day, 88,000/year
  • Common Diagnoses: Trauma, CP, Spinal Cord Injury, TBI, psych holds (30–40), burns and peds transferred out
  • Patient Ratios: 1:4
  • Support:
    • 2 Charge RNs (light/no patient load)
    • 4 PCTs (primarily for sitter coverage)
    • In-house resources: RT 24/7, Pharmacy, MDs/midlevels, anesthesia
    • IV Team: Core RNs (ultrasound trained)

👩‍⚕️ Requirements

  • Experience:
    • Minimum 1 year Trauma Level 1 ED experience (as traveler + perm RN)
    • No first-time travelers
    • Will screen 8+ months of Level 1 experience
  • EMR: Must have recent Cerner experience (listed clearly on resume)
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS, ACLS, PALS
  • Preferred:
    • TNCC and ATCN
    • (Note: ENPC is not accepted as a substitute for PALS)

🚨 Float Policy

  • May float to:
    • St. Joseph’s Main
    • St. Joseph’s Westgate
    • 2 Free-Standing ERs (Litchfield Park & Glendale)
  • Can float mid-shift
  • Must have own vehicle – travel teams are not provided

📍 Facility Rules

  • Radius Rule: Must live 50+ miles from facility (DL required)
  • Hair & Piercings:
    • Must have natural hair color
    • No facial piercings
    • Men must be clean-shaven for N95 fit testing (no PAPR exceptions)
  • Scrubs: Navy blue

Disqualification Triggers

  • Fail Day 1 exam (2 attempts max → DNU for 6 months)
  • Fail SIMs Lab (especially sterile technique)
  • Not competent in Foley/central line/sterile technique
  • Lacks Cerner experience or trauma level 1 history
  • Missing required certifications
  • Local within 50 miles

  • Experienced Trauma Level 1 ED RN
  • Recent Cerner EMR proficiency
  • Comfortable with high-volume, fast-paced ED
  • Strong sterile technique skills
  • Reliable with float flexibility and weekend/holiday availability
