Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department position requiring recent Cerner experience and Arizona or compact RN licensure.
Responsibilities
- Work in a Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department within an acute care hospital setting
- 36 acute and 54 subacute beds with 6 trauma bays (travelers are not assigned to trauma bays)
- Patient ratio is typically 1:4
- Handles trauma, cardiac, burns, and high-acuity cases with 88,000 annual ED visits
- Use of Cerner EMR is required
- Shift options include 12-hour days with a requirement of 4 weekend shifts per month and coverage of 2 out of 4 major holidays
- Expected to float between the main campus, Westgate, and two freestanding ERs within a 30-minute radius; midshift float may occur
- Phillips telemetry monitors used; ability to read strips required
- Expected to perform complex, high-acuity patient care typical of a large, high-volume ED
- SIMs Lab evaluation will include Foley catheter and port-a-cath insertion with strict sterile technique standards
- IV team, RT, and pharmacy are available for support 24/7 in the ED
- No facial piercings or unnatural hair colors allowed; navy scrub color is required
- Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Returning employees must not have worked at any CommonSpirit facility within the past year
- 30-40 psych holds on average in the department
- First day includes pass/fail testing on sterile technique and dysrhythmia recognition
- Holiday coverage expectations require working at least 2 out of 4 major holidays per contract
- Must have own reliable transportation due to float requirements across multiple sites
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum of 2 years recent Emergency Department RN experience, with at least 1 year in a Trauma Level 1 setting as both staff and traveler
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
- Cerner EMR experience is mandatory and must be listed on resume
- Must pass a pre-employment DYS (dysrhythmia) exam before offer; two attempts allowed
- Must pass a SIMs Lab skills assessment on sterile technique during orientation
- TNCC and ATCN certifications are preferred
- Driver's license must show permanent residence of at least 50 miles from the facility
- No first-time travelers will be considered for this position
