Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Emergency Department position requiring 2 years of ED experience and active AZ or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Position based in an acute care Emergency Department setting
  • Level 4 trauma center with 24 beds, 4 critical rooms, and 1 designated trauma room
  • Nurse to patient ratio is typically 1:4 in general ED and 1:2 or 1:1 for ICU-level patients
  • Manages diverse patient population including CP, abdominal pain, minor trauma, and respiratory distress
  • Uses Cerner EMR; prior Cerner experience is preferred
  • Night shifts with 12-hour shift length
  • Every other weekend required; must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • One on-call shift per 28-day schedule
  • Floating required between east and west EDs, generally prescheduled
  • Intake model for lower acuity patients and separate triage area where qualified travelers may triage
  • Two well-equipped psych/seclusion rooms within the unit
  • ED nurses are responsible for managing their own ED holds and may be asked to assist with triage if they demonstrate competency
  • Charge nurse and house supervisor are present 24/7; charge nurse typically does not take a patient assignment
  • ED techs, paramedics, and RT provide support; paramedics may discharge patients and administer medications
  • RNs are required to troubleshoot, but not manage, vents and other RT equipment
  • RNs read their own telemetry strips and may perform EKGs at night
  • Block scheduling is allowed, but no more than four consecutive shifts
  • Navy blue dignity scrubs are required
  • Hospital orientation includes two days plus a 12-hour mentored shift at each ED location
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from facility if in AZ, NV, NE, IA, or MN
  • First time travelers will be considered

Requirements

  • Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of consideration
  • Minimum of 2 years recent Emergency Department RN experience required
  • Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, TNCC, and either ENPC or PALS required
  • Experience with conscious sedation and critical thinking for AMI management required
  • Must provide two professional references: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the past 3 years
  • Completion of Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) and sterile technique testing required before beginning assignment
  • Driver’s license required for consideration
  • Cannot have been directly employed by a CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility in the past year
