Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an Occupational Therapist with at least 2 years of acute care experience for an inpatient rehabilitation setting requiring BLS certification and a state license.

Responsibilities

  • Work in an acute care setting with a focus on rehabilitation therapies and cardiac rehab
  • Position involves inpatient occupational therapy services; travelers may also float to acute rehab units
  • Common patient diagnoses include spinal cord injuries, TBI, stroke, orthopedics, and cardiac rehabilitation
  • 8-hour day shifts with varied start times between 6:30am and 6:30pm, including a 30-minute lunch break
  • Every other weekend coverage required, with a day off during the week when working weekends
  • Holiday shifts filled by sign-up sheet as coverage needs arise
  • Cerner EMR used in all units
  • One rehab aide supports the inpatient team
  • Floating between hospital units and to acute rehab is required
  • Duties include assessment and individualized therapeutic interventions for acute inpatient rehab patients
  • Collaborate with managers and interdisciplinary staff; manager available seven days a week, primarily Monday–Friday with alternating weekends
  • One-day hospital orientation plus 2-3 days of unit-specific orientation provided
  • Support available from a rehab aide and access to 24/7 pharmacy and RT services
  • Opportunities available for first-time travelers
  • Spanish speaking candidates preferred
  • No previous employment at a CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year
  • Scrub requirement: black or dark pants with burgundy dress shirts or polos

Requirements

  • Active state or compact (NLC) Occupational Therapist license required for consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of recent acute care occupational therapy experience required
  • 3-5 years experience preferred
  • Experience with orthopedic, neurological, and cardiac patient populations is required
  • ICU experience preferred
  • BLS certification required
  • COVID vaccination required
  • Experience in outpatient or home health settings preferred
  • Experience with patients with physical disabilities preferred
  • Cerner EMR experience preferred
  • Must provide two professional references: one supervisor from the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
  • Copy of driver’s license must be provided
  • License required if applicable
