Job Description & RequirementsRegistered Nurse – PCU/Stepdown Unit Shift: Nights | 3x12-Hour (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) About Natividad Medical Center As a 172-bed Level II Trauma and teaching hospital, Natividad Medical Center (NMC) serves as the only trauma center in Monterey County and surrounding areas. Position Summary The Night Shift Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/Stepdown is responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to a complex patient population, including trauma patients and those requiring intermediate or advanced care monitoring. The RN ensures safe, evidence-based nursing practice and maintains continuous patient assessment, documentation, and communication with the healthcare team. Key Responsibilities Performs all clinical duties in accordance with unit scope, hospital policies, and regulatory standards Provides continuous monitoring and care for EMU (Epilepsy Monitoring Unit) patients, identifying seizure activity Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates individualized patient care plans based on patient and family needs Documents nursing assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and promptly in EPIC Works closely with the Critical Care Team and Hospitalists for patients receiving advanced care Utilizes hourly rounding, bedside shift reports, and whiteboards to ensure effective communication with patients and families Modifies care plans as needed based on ongoing assessment and patient condition Promotes a safe environment by identifying, reporting, and addressing safety hazards and incidents Supports peer development through constructive feedback and professional collaboration Engages in ongoing learning and meets all department competency requirements Required Experience & Skills Prior experience in PCU, Intermediate Care, Stepdown, and Level I Trauma settings Proficiency with EPIC electronic health records system Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team Must be able to manage high-acuity and rapidly changing patient conditions Required Certifications & Licensure Active CA Registered Nurse (RN) License Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
