Job Description & Requirements
• Level II Trauma Center
• Beds: 411
General Information:
• Beds: 26 ICU
• Experience? 2 years minimum in ICU
• First-time traveler? Yes
Patient Types:
• Medical, Surgical, Trauma, Neuro, Ortho, Interventional patients
• ICP monitoring, External Ventricular drain (EVD), spinal precautions, DKA, Multi system trauma patients, Sepsis, ARDS, COVID, PNA, COPD, Stroke
• Patient Ratios:
• 1:2 - based on acuity (may get 3rd patient as one is being discharged or moved to the floor)
Required Certifications:
• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS
Skills required:
• Please ask all travelers about charge experience and include in the offer info if they have/have not worked in a CRN capacity
• Neuro and Trauma experience are an absolute must - EVD & ICP monitoring
• Ventilator management, critical care drips, drain management, stroke experience, hemodynamic lines (A-lines/CVP), cardiac rhythm recognition, chest tubes, tracheostomy care, strong assessment skills
Support on the Unit:
• Charge nurse: Unassigned - may have patients in a critical staffing situation
• Resource Nurse/House Supervisor - 24/7
• RT, in house 24/7
• Hospitalist, in house 24/7
• Intensivist, 24/7 for consult
• Trauma Surgery team will monitor their own patients
• PT/OT - Mon-Fri
• Charting System/Equipment:
• Cerner (preferred experience)
• Alaris
• Pyxis
Floating:
• To the Cardiac Care Unit (ICU) - will take patients within scope
• Cardiac Stepdown or Medical Stepdown
• PICU if they have Peds experience
• Orientation:
• General Hospital orientation, followed by 1 shift on unit
• Scheduling:
• Weekend rotation: Every other (Dayshift: Sat/Sun; Nightshift: Fri/Sat)
• Will they be on call? If so, what is that schedule? None
• Holiday Expectations: Varies, based on need - all holiday requests should be sent to manager for approval
• Other notes:
• Scrub Color: Any solid color, must be professional
• Parking: Free parking in designated areas
