Job Description:

The Registered Nurse (RN) will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care in the surgical unit. This position requires individuals with strong assessment skills, clinical knowledge, and the ability to work cooperatively within a healthcare team. Key responsibilities include:

Job Functions:
  1. Assessment Skills: Competently assess all normal stages of growth and development from pediatric to geriatric patients, delivering appropriate care through systematic, comprehensive, and accurate assessments.
  2. Clinical Skills: Consistently demonstrate clinical skills through direct patient care activities, providing knowledgeable and effective nursing care to the unit's patient population.
  3. Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation according to guidelines, including responsibility for various components of the nursing process and tracking patient progress.
  4. Professionalism: Uphold professional practice responsibilities, demonstrating knowledge of policies and identifying opportunities for clinical and professional growth.
  5. Patient Satisfaction: Respond to patients, families, and colleagues with professionalism and courtesy, fostering a patient-centered environment.
  6. Safety: Adhere to National Patient Safety Goals and Universal Protocol, ensuring safe transfer techniques and following proper body mechanics.
  7. Unit-Specific Knowledge: Demonstrate familiarity with surgical patients' diagnoses, procedures, and relevant equipment, individualizing care based on procedure type and anesthesia used.
  8. Responsibility and Accountability: Contribute to the perioperative team by prioritizing patient care based on needs and any changes in their condition.
  9. Patient Education: Engage with patients and families in understanding surgical procedures and instructions, conducting pre-operative and post-operative assessments and education.
  10. Pre Admission Testing (PAT): Support the timely completion of patient testing and evaluate PAT orders for appropriateness and potential omissions.
Physical Requirements:

As defined by Occupational Safety/OMS.

Qualifications:
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years critical care experience - required
  • Licensure: Current RN License - Required
  • Certifications: BLS and ACLS - Required
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; Associates or Bachelor's Degree - Preferred
