Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at an academic Level 1 Trauma Center, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Surg experience and a NC or compact RN license.
Responsibilities
- Work in a 40-bed adult med/surg oncology unit within a hospital setting
- Primary patient population includes post-surgical oncology patients with solid tumors involving head/neck, bladder, kidneys, stomach, pancreas, lungs, and colorectal areas
- RN to patient ratio is typically 1:4-5
- Central telemetry monitoring is provided
- Uses Epic for electronic charting
- Required to float first within the cancer center, then to med-surg units within the hospital as needed
- Uses Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell med dispensing, and Philips/Visi monitors
- Evening shifts starting at 6:30pm with every other weekend rotation
- No on-call requirements
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays
- Responsibilities include managing complex post-surgical oncology patients and performing specialized care procedures
- CNA provides regular patient rounds and daily cares; phlebotomy may be nurse responsibility if tech unavailable
- Charge nurse/resource RN frequently available for support
- 24/7 respiratory therapist and provider coverage on unit
- Departmental and facility orientation provided, including 2 days on the unit
- Royal blue scrubs required
- Free onsite parking available
- Unit culture emphasizes teamwork, learning, and active leadership support
- RTO of up to 7 days may be approved if contract is extended to accommodate
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS mandatory for Resource Team
- Minimum 2 years of recent med/surg or oncology nursing experience required
- Experience with trach/lary care, surgical drains (JP, Hemovac, CT), Foley, ostomy, central line maintenance, wound vacs, PCA pumps, epidurals, and chest tubes required
- Experience using Epic EMR preferred
- First-time travelers will not be considered
