Respiratory Therapist

The Respiratory Therapist provides exceptional patient care by delivering intensive respiratory services and facilitating patient transport within the facility, as medically prescribed and within the scope of their professional license, with minimal supervision. Responsibilities include evaluating patients, recommending treatment plans, and educating patients about procedures and equipment prior to discharge.

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using various ventilatory equipment, oxygen, aerosol devices, and nebulizers to administer medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation to patients.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and operate equipment for secretion clearance.
• Execute suctioning using various methods (oropharyngeal, nasal, tracheal).
• Monitor oximetry and capnography in accordance with policy.
• Review patients' chest x-rays to determine the need for further evaluation.
• Perform 12-Lead EKG, basic arrhythmia recognition, and pulmonary function studies (i.e., NIF, VC).
• Assist with respiratory care procedures (i.e., Bronchoscopy, Perc Trachs, Chest Tube placement).
• Manage adequate drainage of the chest via PleurX catheter where applicable.
• Administer tracheostomy care according to policy, including both emergent and non-emergent tube insertion and removal.
• Perform arterial punctures and monitor, record, and report test results effectively.
• Follow policies and procedures related to laboratory testing, including specimen handling and equipment use.
• Conduct cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Handle the insertion and removal of endotracheal tubes using free-hand technique and/or video laryngoscope.
• Set up and self-test all ventilatory equipment as required, while maintaining and monitoring various types of mechanical ventilation.
• Facilitate preventative maintenance and necessary repairs of equipment.
• Accurately document treatments and patient responses in respiratory care records and patient charts, including pre and post-assessment as per policy.
• Communicate effectively with attending physicians and pulmonary specialists regarding treatment efficiency.
• Report significant information during shift-to-shift handoffs.
• Maintain precise respiratory therapy charging, including data entry and error correction.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

This is a 13-week contract position.
