Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with strong critical care skills and required certifications for a night shift position with a 48-hour work week.
Responsibilities
- Work in a large mixed ICU setting (MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU) within a hospital
- Patient population includes complex medical, surgical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases
- Common diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-op, and multiple system trauma
- Assigned patient ratios of 1:1 or 1:2, 1:3 rarely based on acuity
- Utilizes Epic charting system (required), Alaris/Baxter pumps, and Omnicell
- Night shifts are 12 hours in length with rotating weekends
- Floating is uncommon but may involve other adult units including MedSurg/Tele
- Orientation includes hospital orientation plus two ICU precepted shifts (12hr and 8hr)
- Responsibilities include managing critical patients through multidisciplinary teamwork and rapidly evolving scenarios
- Collaboration with CNA staff, charge RNs, resource nurses, phlebotomy, respiratory therapists, and intensivists
- No on-call required
- No RTO during holidays or during first three weeks of August (Sturgis Bike Rally)
- Navy scrubs are required
- Free parking is available on site
- Travelers may float to other adult units if overstaffed, with comfort level discussed during interview
Requirements
- Valid RN license through South Dakota Board of Nursing or compact equivalent
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS required
- TNCC required prior to start
- Minimum two years recent ICU experience (excluding travel); candidates with 1.5 years and significant non-ICU RN experience considered with management approval
- At least one prior travel assignment required; first-time travelers not accepted
- Epic charting experience required
- Strong skills with ventilator management, IV medication administration (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics), hemodynamic lines, proning, and telemetry
- Strongly prefer experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT
- Must live at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
- Permanent employees must wait one year before returning as a traveler
