Respiratory Therapist - 13-Week Assignment
Job Description
The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory care and assisting with patient transport as medically prescribed. This role includes evaluating patients, recommending treatment plans, and educating patients about their treatments and discharge plans.
Responsibilities
- Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using various ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizers.
- Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning using multiple methods.
- Monitor oximetry and capnography according to policy.
- Review patient's chest x-rays and perform pulmonary function studies.
- Assist with respiratory care-related procedures such as bronchoscopy and chest tube placement.
- Conduct tracheostomy care, including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes.
- Perform arterial puncture and monitor test results.
- Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
- Record treatment information and communicate with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding patient therapy.
- Maintain accurate respiratory therapy charging and reporting.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Current Virginia state license as a Respiratory Therapist.
- Experience with ventilatory equipment and respiratory care procedures.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
Schedule
This position requires a day shift with a 3x12.0-hour schedule.
