Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring LDRP proficiency and night shifts every other weekend.
Responsibilities
- Work in an acute care Labor & Delivery unit with a birthing center and mother/baby unit
- Unit features 34 L&D beds, 2 OR suites for C-sections, 2 triage beds, and 14 postpartum beds
- Average of 150-180 births per month
- Patient population includes high risk cases such as preeclampsia, diabetes, psych/social issues, substance use, and gestations of 33 weeks and above
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:2 for L&D and 1:3-4 for couplets according to AWHONN guidelines
- RNs are required to titrate drips including magnesium, pitocin, and insulin
- Requires use of Epic for charting; EFM system is Centricity-perinatal
- Block scheduling is an option; night shifts are 12 hours with every other weekend (Friday/Saturday) required
- Floating within the mother/baby and postpartum unit required; no floating to NICU or outside the department
- On standby, a 45-minute response time is required
- Primary duties include attending deliveries, circulating in C-sections, caring for high risk and postpartum patients, and supporting newborn transitions
- Travel nurses must be open and adaptable to unit workflows, policies, procedures, and feedback
- 24/7 in-house OBGYN/hospitalist and anesthesia coverage; 24/7 NNP available in the nursery
- Scrubs are provided and a locker is available for use
- 8-hour day for compliance with manager, 8-hour Epic class, and 2-3 shifts for unit-specific orientation provided
- Holiday coverage is rotated with permanent staff
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Must be able to function in the postpartum setting with routine mom/baby competencies
- May not have been employed by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year
Requirements
- Active RN license (state or compact) required at time of consideration
- Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NRP required
- Minimum 2 years of recent LDRP experience required; will consider 1 year with multiple travel assignments
- Confidence in independently attending deliveries, circulating in C-sections, and assisting in newborn transitions
- Experience titrating labor and delivery drips required
- Experience with Epic EMR preferred
- Copy of driver’s license required for consideration
- Two references required: one recent supervisor (within 12 months) and one peer or supervisor (within 3 years), including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
